FROM THE
ORGANISERS OF BLACKPOOL PRIDE:
 As
we approach our third Pride weekend, which will coincide
with the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO
Day) we know that this year's event really IS going to
be even bigger! Blackpool Pride has made staggering
leaps forward in such a short space of time and is now
set to illuminate the resort with a fantastic programme
celebrating its embrace of the LGBT community.
The promenade will again come to a complete standstill
at Midday on Saturday 17th May as the vast array of
floats and groups parade along the Golden Mile from the
new St Chad's Headland to arrive at North Pier around
1pm - see Greg at Trades Hotel for an application form
if you wish to enter.
A Civic
Official Opening Ceremony will take place with many
guests and celebrities appearing on the Radio Wave
Mobile Stage, followed by a "live" studio link, getting
the weekend into full swing. A Promenade Market (another
"first" for Blackpool) will play host to many LGBT
lifestyle stalls.
New for this year is the "Women's Area" catering mainly,
but not exclusively, for the needs of the girls, hosted
by, amongst others, the irrepressible "Clitty Rubquick".
Onto the North Pier, and we are spending over £1,500 on
decorations this year, including turning each of the
lamp posts into a huge Palm Tree of Rainbow colour! You
may be accosted by some rather large Seagulls here
(roughly 6ft in fact!) and will also need to watch out
for "Musical Ruth", a Piano playing Nun travelling at
30mph!!
Two distinctly different areas will again be at the end
of the Pier. Firstly the Dance Arena plays host to the
hugely successful Federation Club promoters who will be
entertaining you throughout the whole of Saturday. Be
careful though, as you may be set upon by our team of
fitness instructors who will be there to put you through
your dance paces!! Sunday in the Dance Arena will begin
with an important time for reflection at 11.45am as we
give thanks with Blackpool's Liberty Church. This will
be followed by a host of familiar faces from the
Blackpool Scene, including our own Basil Newby with a
"Tea Dance", and later in the afternoon Trades Bar will
hold the Mr Bear 2008 Finals! The afternoon will
culminate with Ross Alexander's ANTHEM.
Moving over to the Theatre and we have an amazing list
of Local and Celebrity Artists performing from around
3pm. Celebrity Artists appearing will include: The
Sheilas, Same Difference, Rowetta, Kelly Llorena, Mary
Kiani, Kelly Wilde, Kavana, Michelle McManus, and
topping this amazing show will be Pete Burns.
Sunday night is set to host arguably Blackpool's Show of
the Year: "Being Alive". Directed by stage legend Dougie
Squires, coordinated by Richard Caswell, and hosted by
the unstoppable "King Of The Jungle" Christopher Biggins,
this is a star studded production of Dance and Theatre
set to blow you away! The proceeds of this separately
ticketed show will go directly to the Terrence Higgins
Trust.
And don't forget, Blackpool's venues also have a
"Campaign of Pleasure" second to none in the planning!
We have now posted the full weekend's programme on the
Pride website, but do please keep checking back as this
is subject to change and the website will be constantly
updated with all the latest info to allow people to plan
for a Pride experience they will never forget!! |

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis A, B and C are viruses which cause inflammation of
the liver. Serious complications such as cirrhosis, liver
cancer and other liver diseases may result. These
complications can ultimately be fatal.
Gay
and bisexual men are at higher risk because the virus is more
widespread amongst the gay community.
SPREAD THE WORD - NOT THE VIRUS! IF YOU CAN - GET THE
PRICK!

C go to:

Police and Communities Together
In June 2004 the PACT (Police
and Communities Together) initiative was introduced throughout
Lancashire. The scheme is designed to address issues of local
concern. If you have a problem or issue which you would like
to raise with ourselves and the panel please come along and we
will do our best to sort it out. Our PACT meetings continue to
be a great success.

Nightsafe Initiative
 The
Nightsafe initiative tackles the impact that binge drinking
has in relation to the number of alcohol related crimes in the
resort. It has been taken on-board by licensed premises,
including those within the Gay Community and it is hoped that
as a result violent crime will reduce accordingly. This will
impact on alcohol related crime within the lesbian and gay
community and also hate crime attacks fuelled by alcohol.
To
reinforce their commitment, police chiefs have put in post a
dedicated Police Community Support Officer, Bev Taylor, who
will work closely with licensees, aiming to make going out in
the Blackpool Gay scene a safer and more enjoyable experience.
Lancashire Constabulary encourages all victims to report
matters personally. However, if they do not wish to do so,
there is a self-reporting leaflet, which enables victims to
report incidents anonymously. These leaflets are available
from many public buildings such as doctor's surgeries,
hospitals, libraries, town halls, gay venues, CAB offices,
HIV/Aids Charities and a number of hotels across the area.
There are also a number of third party reporting centres being
established, so that victims can attend places other than the
police station to report incidents. These include: Drugline,
CVS, Streetlife, Blackpool Advocacy, Blackpool Equalities Unit
Borough Council, Blackpool Victim Support, The Mardi Gras
Club, One Stop Shop at the Flamingo, The Citizen Advice Bureau
at 5 Pier Housing, Muir Housing, Ward Dodd and Co - Milbourne
Street.
