Recipe Of The Day:
Alcoholic Drinks:
You've all heard of it, but who could actually make a Harvey
Wallbanger?
It's
1½ fluid oz vodka, 2 teaspoons Galliano, 3 fluid oz fresh orange
juice, 2-3 cracked ice cubes, 1 slice of cucumber, 1 slice of
pineapple, 1 cocktail cherry, and a twist of orange peel. Put the
ice into the glass then pour in the fresh orange juice, vodka, and
Galliano. Stir well. Then decorate with the cherry, pineapple,
cucumber, and orange peel on a cocktail stick, and serve.
So now you know!
But for a sure fire way of getting a party going, you couldn't
do much better than a Moscow Mule:
It's 2 fluid oz vodka, the juice of 1 lime, 3-4 crushed ice cubes,
and ginger beer. Put the crushed ice cubes into a glass. Squeeze
in the lime juice and then add the vodka. Finally, top up the
glass with the ginger beer, stir and serve.
A drink to be wary of as an unscrupulous host can up the vodka
content alarmingly - and you'd never know! The ginger beer tickles
the throat and entices you to keep on drinking it. - Not for the
faint-hearted!

TIP OF THE
CENTURY (29):
Avoid those
savoury dips at parties where people are dipping a
vegetable, taking a bite and then dipping the vegetable
again. By “double dipping” bacteria is transferred from a
person's mouth into the dip. You could land up with
something quite unsavoury! |
Sex
in the Pool:
Use
a Highball Glass.
1 measure of Vodka, add an equal amount of Blue Curacao then fill
with Pineapple Juice and shake.
Fuzzy Screw:
Use a Highball Glass.
1 measure of Vodka add equal amount of Peach Schnapps then fill
with Fresh Orange Juice and shake.
Between the Sheets:
Use a Cocktail Glass.
1 measure of Brandy, add equal amounts of Triple Sec and Light Rum
then shake.
|
TIP OF THE CENTURY (32):
When doing a buffet always label the food so that your
guests know exactly what is on offer. If you don't
then you may find food later that someone didn't like
stuffed behind your curtains, under your sofa, or in the
strangest of places! |

A TOUCH OF PINK
Release Date: 11/02/2008
Playing
it straight is about to get complicated in the fabulous screwball
comedy A Touch of Pink starring heartthrobs Jimi Mistry and Kyle
MacLachlan. A Touch of Pink will be available to buy on DVD for
the first time from 11th February 2008. Valentine’s Day gifting
for your perfect man just got that bit easier…
Alim (Jimi Mistry, THE GURU), is a young Ismaili Canadian, now
living in London, who is so caught up in the romance, style and
dreams of the old movies that he has adopted the spirit of Cary
Grant (Kyle MacLachlan, SEX IN THE CITY, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) as
his lifestyle advisor. Whilst Cary freely gossips about his
defunct co-stars and offers sartorial tips, Alim is enjoying a hot
romance with his new sexy boyfriend Giles (Kristen Holden-Ried,
THE TUDORS). But his life of leisure and pleasure begins to
unravel when his mother Nuru (Suleka Mathew, MEN IN TREES) shows
up. She has come to London to find Alim a proper Ismaili-Muslim
girlfriend and to convince him to return to Canada and join the
family for his cousin's spectacular wedding. Once in Toronto,
Alim's different worlds begin to collide and he has to choose
between his fantasy life with Cary, his family and the earthier
pleasures of real life with his man.
Paying homage to the Cary Grant and Doris Day movies of the late
‘50s and early ‘60s, A Touch of Pink is ‘A clever and big hearted
screwball comedy’ New York Post.

AstaBGay was privileged to receive an advance copy of this film to
review:
A truly memorable film - I both laughed and cried, and I never
wanted it to end! Gay or straight, if you are only going to buy or
rent one film this year, then this really has to be the one.
Capturing all those wonderful qualities of the great Cary Grant -
Doris Day classics of yesteryear, it has brought them bang up to
date - and it works magically.
- Michael Knell.

Sex Lives Of The
Famous Gays - Nigel Cawthorne
Over the years some gay men, such as Oscar Wilde, suffered for
their sexuality. Others, such as Quentin Crisp, made a career
out of it. Noel Coward could not have been more camp. J. Edgar
Hoover hid his sexuality whilst openly persecuting other
homosexuals, T. E. Lawrence probably died because he could not
come to terms with his sexual needs. Joe Orton died because
his partner could not accept them, while for Japanese novelist
Yukio Mishima death itself was a sexual act. Sex Lives of the
Famous Gays contains a richly diverse collection of gay lives
- from the noble and heroic, through the comically camp to the
compellingly creepy.

 "History
is written by the victors. They choose what will be
remembered, and what covered up. So it has been with male eros.
Looking at any history textbook, one would think that never
has a society praised love between men, never has a painter, a
poet or a pope shared his bed and his heart with another male.
Evidence of same-sex love has been either quietly suppressed,
as with the Greeks and Romans, or quickly destroyed, as is
still done with newly unearthed Inca and Mayan art. The result
of this deception has been a needless polarization of society
and untold suffering for those people who happen to fall in
love with others of their own sex."
