Born
Ruth Elizabeth Davis on April 5th. 1908 in Lowell,
Massachusetts, she failed her first screen test with Goldwyn
but passed with the next for Universal.
During
her sixty year career she made over eighty films. She received
ten Academy Award nominations, and won Best Actress Oscar
twice. In 1977 she became the first woman to receive the
American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bette married four times and had three children. She died in
Paris, France on October 6th. 1989 from breast cancer. Her
body is interred at Forest Lawn, Los Angeles.
Always
a gay favourite, Bette Davis. Her ruthless quick wit; her
fights with Joan Crawford (both on and off the screen); her
mannerisms. They were a godsend to be revered and copied by
any young queen trying to impress. Who could bitch better?
Would life in the community have been the same without "What
Ever Happened To Baby Jane?"??? - I doubt it!
